The Los Angeles Angels have designated 27-year old lefty reliever/starter Brett Oberholtzer for assignment. He pitched in 11 games (2 starts) for the Angels last year and he was 1-1 with a 8.55 ERA and a 1.80 WHIP. He gave up 27 hits (7 homers) and 9 walks while whiffing 16 batters in 20 innings for the Angels. Oberholtzer pitched in 37 games (2 starts) for the Angels and Phillies last year in which he was 3-3 with 1 save, a 5.89 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP. He has now pitched in 82 games (44 starts) in his first four years in the show and he is 14-23 with 1 save, a 4.36 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. Some team will give Oberholtzer a chance in 2017, but the Angels saw enough of him to know that they didn’t want him back for next year, and it’s hard to blame them for that.
UPDATE: (11/4/2016) – The Angels have outrighted Brett Oberholtzer to AAA.
